MILITARY SPECIFICATION
DEMONSTRATION OF AIRBORNE TARGET AND MISSILE SYSTEMS
GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR
This specification is approved for use by the Naval Air Systems Command,
Department of the Navy, and is available for use by all departments and agen-
cies of the Department of Defense.
SCOPE
1.
1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for the contractor's
formal demonstration of air launched guided missile systems and aerial target
systems including the ground support equipment$ test equipment, launch equip-
ment and ancillary equipment. Whenever the word system or systems is used in
this specification it shall mean air launched guided missile system or aerial
target system as applicable.
1.2 Purpose.
The purpose of the demonstration is as follows:
a. To demonstrate the functional compatibility of all components com-
prising the system and its conformity to requirements specified in the contract
detail specifications. The system is comprised of the launching equipment, air
launched guided missile or aerial target, air launched guided missile or aerial
target components, containers and ground support equipment. For an airborne
launch of a target, the aerial target system will also include the aircraft
target control panel, mechanical and electrical inter-face adapter, and target
delivery and retrieval equipment, as applicable.
b. To demonstrate an airborne or surface launch capability, the func-
tional compatibility of the systiem with the system designated as the launch
platform, and compatibility with the tracking and control equipment. For an
airborne launch, the launch platform will consist of the launch aircraft, the
launch central panel for the system, mechanical and electrical interface
adapters, and the system release, jettison and retrieval equipment as appli-
cable.
